Alcoholic beverages such as whisky, cognac, etc., contain small amounts of fatty acid esters, which tend to precipitate at low temperatures (during transport, in the refrigerator) and cause turbidity. To prevent this undesired phenomenon, the spirits are cooled and filtered prior to bottling. This process is known as chill filtration.
A food-compatible, stainless steel version of the SIGRIST turbidimeter monitors the filtration step continuously. Hence it ensures both product quality and optimal filter utilization.
